Bergs, 27, will meet Humbert again at Wimbledon in the first round. After the win, Bergs ran to hug his team, saying, “The results are not there, we keep focusing on improving. And that’s why we’re here today, standing with the trophy.”
A timely break secured the first set for Humbert, but Bergs fought back in the second set with a confident second serve, while Humbert made 16 unforced errors. Bergs continued to exploit Humbert’s errors, targeting the sidelines, and sealed the win when a frustrated Humbert hit the net.
