Alexandra Glorioso Joins ProPublica-Texas Tribune Investigative Team

Alexandra Glorioso, an accomplished investigative journalist, is set to join the collaborative investigative unit of ProPublica and The Texas Tribune, starting May 26. Glorioso will be based in Austin, Texas, where she will focus on statewide political and healthcare investigations.

Background and Achievements

Glorioso’s investigative reporting at the Miami Herald uncovered significant misuse of public funds by the administration of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. Her work revealed that $10 million in public funds were transferred to a foundation led by the governor’s wife, Casey DeSantis. Although the Hope Florida Foundation was promoted as an alternative to welfare programs, it was found to have diverted Medicaid settlement funds to a political committee. This committee aimed to defeat initiatives such as the legalization of recreational marijuana and the repeal of Florida’s six-week abortion ban.

The investigation, which Glorioso conducted alongside Tampa Bay Times reporters Lawrence Mower and Justin Garcia, led to a criminal grand jury investigation and legislative changes to prevent future misuse of public funds for political purposes. The team was recognized as finalists for the 2026 Goldsmith Prize for Investigative Reporting.

New Role in Texas

Glorioso’s move to Texas is seen as a significant addition to the ProPublica-Texas Tribune team, which has been producing investigative stories since 2020. Zahira Torres, editor for the investigative unit, expressed excitement about Glorioso’s passion for accountability reporting, particularly on issues crucial to Texans like healthcare and governance.

Glorioso, who is also a cancer survivor, brings a personal understanding of the challenges many Texans face in accessing quality healthcare. Her colleagues have described her as compassionate, collaborative, fearless, and relentless in her pursuit of the truth.

Glorioso’s previous work includes exposing sexual harassment allegations against Florida Senate budget chairman Jack Latvala, leading to his resignation. Her educational background includes a bachelor’s degree in economics from Arizona State University and a master’s degree in journalism from Columbia University.

With her new role, Glorioso aims to bring her investigative skills to the vibrant political landscape of Texas, continuing her dedication to uncovering the truth and holding those in power accountable.
