Tampa Jewish Groups Urge Cancellation of Ye Concerts

Tampa Jewish groups are calling for the cancellation of Ye’s upcoming concerts at Raymond James Stadium, citing his past praise for the Nazi leader and antisemitic remarks. Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, has been blasted by local officials and Jewish organizations for his comments, which they say have caused genuine fear and anxiety among the Jewish community.

Background

Ye released a song last year that included a Nazi slogan and sold T-shirts with the Nazi logo. He also sampled a speech by Adolf Hitler in one of his songs. Ye has since apologized for his behavior, attributing it to a manic episode and a head injury. However, many in the Jewish community are skeptical of his apology, pointing out that his antisemitic comments spanned over two years.

The Tampa Jewish Federation and the Jewish Federation of Florida’s Gulf Coast have released statements condemning Ye’s comments and calling for the cancellation of his concerts. Senator Rick Scott and Hillsborough County Commissioner Harry Cohen have also spoken out against Ye’s remarks, with Scott urging the Tampa Sports Authority to cancel the concerts.

Community Response

The controversy surrounding Ye’s concerts has sparked a community-wide response, with many calling for the cancellation of the events. The Tampa Sports Authority has not yet responded to requests for comment. The concerts are scheduled to take place on June 26 and June 28, with tickets starting at $168.
