McMurray, Pa. — The Gallant Frazier Lady Commodores entered the WPIAL Class 2A championship as the third seed, facing the taller, top‑seeded Our Lady of the Sacred Heart (OLSH) Chargers at Peters Township High School’s AHN Arena.
Frazier rallied from a five‑point deficit to capture the opening set, but OLSH responded with a 25‑16 win in the second set and dominated the third and fourth, sealing the district title by scores of 20‑25, 25‑16, 25‑15 and 25‑19.
Coach Hartman on the challenge
“They’re just a really good volleyball team,” said Frazier coach Mandy Hartman, who is guiding her squad to its fifth championship appearance and a third title. “OLSH has so much height and it’s hard to play against.”
Hartman noted that Frazier moved up from Class 1A this season, while OLSH dropped from Class 3A, giving the Chargers more experience at this level.
Key performances
Senior Allie Monack led Frazier with 15 kills and six assists, adding a service ace in the decisive run that gave the Lady Commodores a 16‑15 lead in the first set. Fellow seniors Mia West, Grace Polkabla, Addison Hiles and Lola Marish also contributed.
OLSH’s Frankie Schlatterer paced the Chargers with 16 kills and 11 blocks, while teammates Coladonato and Macie Trombetta added 10 and nine kills respectively.
Game flow
The Lady Commodores fell behind early, trailing 8‑3 and 12‑7 before a five‑point surge, highlighted by Hiles’ aces and Monack’s kills, put them ahead 16‑15. They extended the lead to 24‑18, winning the first set 25‑20.
OLSH answered with aggressive serving and dominant net play, taking the next three sets comfortably. “They served so aggressively,” Hartman said. “They took our offense completely out of the match.”
In the final set, Frazier rallied to close the gap to 22‑18, prompting OLSH coach Mike McDonald to call two timeouts. A deflected ball gave OLSH a decisive kill, and they closed the match.
Looking ahead
Hartman praised her team’s perseverance. “I’m proud of my girls. I never thought we’d be here back in August.” The Lady Commodores will begin PIAA play next week, with details to be announced.
