Fort Worth Art Commission Moves Forward with $10.8 Million Public‑Art Bond Plan

Fort Worth residents will soon see new sculptures, murals and installations in neighborhoods throughout the city after the Fort Worth Art Commission provisionally approved the public‑art component of the $10.8 million 2026 bond plan at its Oct. 19 meeting, according to the Fort Worth Report.

The draft plan earmarks funds for artworks tied to parks, libraries, streets, fire stations and other public spaces. Specific sites include Rosen Park, Meadowbrook Golf Course, the Fort Worth Water Gardens and Gateway Park West. The commission also identified Buck Sansom Park as a possible campus for several pieces, allocating about $700,000 across two bond propositions for that location. Additional neighborhood‑focused projects are slated for Unity Park and the Southside Pump Station, while community centers, libraries and fire stations could receive new installations as well.

Commissioner Bernardo Vallarino voiced concern that the plan might favor “quantity over quality,” suggesting the city consolidate projects into fewer, larger works that would have greater visual impact and urging discussions about maintenance funding for existing artworks. Despite that critique, commissioners voted unanimously to endorse the draft, leaving room for revisions before a final vote expected in January or February.

Public‑art program manager Anne Allen emphasized the civic value of the initiative, stating, “Fort Worth Public Art is a city program. It enables neighborhoods to partner with the city and shape the look and feel of the built environment in which we all live. (The artwork) highlights the stories and the aspects of Fort Worth that make us unique.”

No public comment was recorded at the meeting, but the commission scheduled a public hearing for Nov. 16, giving residents an opportunity to review the proposed projects and provide feedback before the commission finalizes the plan.

What’s next: Fort Worth citizens can attend the Nov. 16 hearing to voice support or concerns about the proposed artworks. After the hearing, the commission will refine the plan and present it for final approval in January or February, after which the city can begin contracting artists and installing the pieces throughout the community.
