Elsmere police reported that a teenager was critically injured Saturday afternoon after a 9mm handgun discharged during a Facetime call. Officers responded to a shooting at a residence on the 100 block of Garvey Avenue and found the 17‑year‑old victim with a gunshot wound to the head.
First responders airlifted the injured youth to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center for emergency care. A second juvenile, known to the victim, was identified as the shooter. Because of his age, the suspect’s name was not released. He faces a charge of second‑degree assault with a deadly weapon.
Investigation ongoing
Police say the incident occurred while the suspect was displaying the handgun to others during the video call, and the weapon unintentionally fired. No further details about the events leading up to the shooting have been released.
The investigation remains active, and authorities are asking anyone with additional information to contact the Kenton County Emergency Communication Center at 859‑356‑3191 or the Elsmere Police Department at 859‑474‑4785.
