The Fort Worth Art Commission voted unanimously on Oct. 19 to provisionally approve a draft public‑art plan funded by the city’s $10.8 million 2026 bond package. The plan, which voters approved in May, earmarks money for artworks in parks, libraries, streets, fire stations and other civic sites across Fort Worth.
Key sites and funding allocations
Among the locations highlighted in the draft are Rosen Park, Meadowbrook Golf Course, Fort Worth Water Gardens and Gateway Park West. The commission also identified Buck Sansom Park as a possible campus for several pieces, proposing roughly $700,000 across two bond propositions for that site.
Neighborhood‑focused projects are slated for Unity Park and the Southside Pump Station, while community centers, libraries and fire stations could receive additional installations.
Commission concerns and next steps
Commissioner Bernardo Vallarino voiced a concern that the plan might spread resources too thin by approving many smaller projects. “There’s a lot of great projects in here that could happen, but I think quantity over quality might be a problem,” Vallarino said, urging the commission to consider consolidating into fewer, larger works that deliver greater visual impact. He also called for discussions with the city about funding maintenance for existing artworks.
Despite the concern, the commission endorsed the draft unanimously, leaving room for revisions before a final vote expected in January or February.
Program manager’s perspective
Public‑art program manager Anne Allen emphasized the role of art in shaping Fort Worth’s built environment. “Fort Worth Public Art is a city program. It enables neighborhoods to partner with the city and shape the look and feel of the built environment in which we all live,” Allen said. She added that the proposed pieces “highlight the stories and the aspects of Fort Worth that make us unique.”
Public hearing scheduled
A public hearing is set for Nov. 16, giving residents an opportunity to review the proposed projects and provide feedback before the commission finalizes the plan. The Fort Worth Report’s Documenters program encourages community members to help fill gaps in reporting on Tarrant County public meetings.
For more information on how to participate in the hearing or to submit comments, residents can visit the city’s official website or contact the Fort Worth Art Commission directly.
