Foundation Communities, a nonprofit that manages affordable housing across Austin and North Texas, opened a new financial‑assistance hub on West Braker Lane. The 4,600‑square‑foot Prosper Center North replaces the organization’s former center on North Airport Boulevard and is designed to bring free, unbiased services closer to the families that need them.
What the center offers
The center provides a suite of complimentary services, including tax‑preparation assistance, enrollment in affordable health‑insurance plans, financial coaching, benefits navigation and college‑and‑career counseling. According to a press release, the Prosper Health Coverage program will operate seven days a week through Dec. 15, giving clients a narrow window to enroll in a plan that takes effect on New Year’s Day.
Facilities and location
Prosper Center North occupies the former St. Mark United Methodist Church building. The renovated space features 20 work stations separated by sound‑minimizing dividers for privacy, fully enclosed offices for one‑on‑one consultations, upgraded restrooms, new roofing and insulation, and a large window that lets in natural light. The property sits on 4.9 acres purchased from the United Methodist Church, which closed in 2025 due to low attendance. Foundation Communities says it hopes to develop affordable housing for families on the site in the near future.
Targeted outreach
By moving farther north, the nonprofit can better serve residents of Northwest Austin, Pflugerville, Round Rock and other surrounding communities. The organization aims to enroll 4,000 Central Texans in health‑insurance plans and to connect about 2,400 local musicians with coverage through a partnership with Health Alliance for Austin Musicians (HAAM). More than 230 Certified Application Counselors will be on hand, supported by a staff of 20.
Community support
The grand opening was celebrated on Oct. 28 with remarks from Foundation Communities executive director Walter Moreau, U.S. Rep. Lloyd Doggett, musician Chase Spruiell and members of HAAM. The nonprofit also dedicated two spaces in the new center to Rep. Doggett and Wells Fargo in recognition of their financial contributions to the Prosper programs.
Why it matters
Free, unbiased assistance with taxes, benefits and health‑insurance enrollment is a lifeline for many families navigating a complex system. As the federal marketplace enrollment period runs from Nov. 1 to Jan. 15, the timing of the center’s opening ensures that residents have direct access to help before the deadline. By expanding its footprint northward, Foundation Communities reinforces its commitment to affordable housing and supportive services for the broader Austin region.
