Los Angeles police are urging anyone with information to help locate a driver who fled a crash that claimed the life of a 2‑month‑old infant and left the mother in grave condition. The collision occurred Wednesday afternoon, around 3:10 p.m., at the intersection of Roscoe Boulevard and Louise Avenue in the Northridge neighborhood.
Sequence of events
According to a Los Angeles Police Department news release, a white 2025 Toyota Crown had a green light and was traveling eastbound on Roscoe. A silver sedan attempted a left turn from eastbound Roscoe onto southbound Louise. After the sedan completed the turn, a white pickup truck behind it turned without yielding to oncoming traffic.
To avoid striking the pickup, the Crown driver swerved left into the oncoming lane, lost control, and collided head‑on with a white 2017 Toyota Prius. The Prius was carrying three occupants – its driver, a 20‑year‑old mother, and her 2‑month‑old baby.
Injuries and response
All three occupants of the Prius were severely injured and were transported to a local hospital. The infant did not survive, and the mother remains in grave condition, according to hospital officials. The Crown driver remained at the scene and cooperated with officers.
In contrast, the pickup driver left the scene without providing identification or assistance, a violation of California law. The LAPD classified the incident as a “non‑contact collision” because the Crown driver’s evasive maneuver caused the Prius driver to lose control. Fleeing the scene is a criminal offense, the department added.
Police appeal for tips
Detectives are asking anyone who saw the pickup or who can identify the vehicle to contact Valley Traffic Division Officer Hansen at 818‑644‑8255 or Detective Martinez at 818‑644‑8033. Anonymous tips can also be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 800‑222‑8477.
The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities will continue to review traffic camera footage and witness statements to locate the fleeing driver.
