San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) released details on a violent incident that occurred just before 2 p.m. on Thursday in the historic 200 block of La Villita. According to SAPD Public Information Officer Lizzandra Trevino, a man in his mid‑20s approached two construction workers who were seated inside a vehicle and asked them for money.
Confrontation escalates
When the workers declined the request, the man allegedly began pulling on the vehicle door and assaulted the driver, a 41‑year‑old man. The passenger, a 22‑year‑old, exited the vehicle to assist his coworker. The assailant then pursued the passenger, at which point the passenger fired his weapon, striking the man in the torso.
Victim’s condition
The injured individual was immediately transported to a local hospital where he remains in critical condition. Police have not released the victim’s name pending notification of family members.
Investigation ongoing
SAPD officials confirmed that no arrests have been made at this time. The department is conducting a preliminary investigation and is asking anyone with information about the shooting to contact the SAPD tip line.
Community response
Local residents expressed concern over the incident, noting that La Villita is a popular tourist and cultural district that typically sees a high volume of foot traffic. Community leaders emphasized the importance of maintaining public safety while preserving the historic character of the area.
The SAPD continues to patrol the downtown corridor and urges citizens to report suspicious activity. Further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
