Sherman, Texas – The city’s culinary landscape is expanding fast. On Friday, Bubba’s 33 celebrated its ribbon‑cutting ceremony, marking the first of several new eateries slated to open in Sherman. The restaurant opened its doors to the public at 11 a.m. on Monday, offering a hybrid sports‑bar experience with 33 televisions, loud music, and a mix of rock‑and‑roll and sports‑focused entertainment.
Community Leaders Praise the Growth
Emilie Harris, president of the Sherman Chamber of Commerce, expressed excitement about the new options. “We’ve had the same options for so long, so it’s exciting to get something new in, and not just new to the area, but new to a lot of people who haven’t had their food before,” she said.
Scott Grace, managing partner of Bubba’s 33, emphasized that the venue is more than a typical sports bar. “33 TVs, loud music, having fun, always sports based, a little bit of rock ‘n’ roll and a little bit of sports all wrapped into one,” Grace explained.
More Restaurants on the Way
Longhorn Steakhouse will open next door to Bubba’s 33 on Dec. 14, adding a classic Texas steakhouse to the mix. In the Town Center area, First Watch is planned for the former Taco Cabana space, while Chuy’s will be situated between IHOP and Texas Roadhouse.
The most notable upcoming project is Salsa Tex‑Mex, announced as the first sit‑down restaurant at Sherman Crossroads, adjacent to the H‑E‑B property. The chain, which operates about five locations in the Dallas‑Fort Worth Metroplex, expects to break ground next year.
City Officials Highlight Economic Drivers
Nate Strauch, community and support services manager for the City of Sherman, said the sit‑down concept reflects a maturing development pattern. “The fact that it is a sit‑down restaurant really demonstrates that development is kind of maturing and coming into its own. So we expect that this will be the first of many that would open up in that development,” Strauch noted.
City leaders also credit the recent housing boom for the surge in restaurant development. The south side of Sherman has added thousands of jobs at major employers such as Texas Instruments and Global Wafers. “Now that a lot of those houses have been bought up and been filled with new families, you’re starting to see a lot of these restaurants respond and say, ‘OK, a lot of people are moving to Sherman. We need to give them more options to eat,’” Strauch added.
What This Means for Residents
For families and longtime residents, the new dining choices provide more variety without having to travel to larger nearby cities. The mix of casual sports‑oriented venues and traditional sit‑down restaurants aligns with the community’s desire for both entertainment and family‑friendly meals.
Local business owners are optimistic that the influx of new restaurants will create additional jobs and stimulate further investment in the downtown and Town Center districts. The city’s planning department is monitoring the development to ensure that infrastructure, parking, and traffic flow keep pace with the growing demand.
Looking Ahead
With Bubba’s 33 already serving patrons and Longhorn Steakhouse set to open in mid‑December, Sherman’s dining scene is poised for a busy holiday season. The upcoming ground‑breaking for Salsa Tex‑Mex next year promises to keep the momentum going, reinforcing Sherman’s reputation as a growing hub for both residents and visitors.
As the city continues to attract new families and expand its job base, the partnership between local government, business leaders, and the community will be essential to maintaining a vibrant, family‑oriented environment that reflects Sherman’s traditional values and forward‑looking spirit.
