Arlington Independent School District is among the Texas school districts impacted by a large‑scale data breach that exposed sensitive personal information for staff and families. The breach originated from Frontline Education, the company that provides grade‑book, attendance and other administrative software to districts across the state.
What happened
On August 14, Frontline Education reported that a third‑party component of its system was compromised. The company said the intrusion was contained the following day, but the breach affected roughly 778,000 Texans, according to a notice posted on the Texas Attorney General’s website.
The compromised data may include Social Security numbers, dates of birth, driver’s license numbers, passport numbers, other government IDs, Medicaid IDs and student IDs. Frontline Education offered a free 24‑month TransUnion credit‑monitoring membership to those affected and set up a hotline (1‑800‑759‑7279) for questions.
Arlington ISD response
Arlington ISD spokesperson Taina Northington confirmed that the district sent email notifications to impacted staff members and families on October 26, the same day Frontline posted its public statement. The district is working with the vendor and an independent cybersecurity firm to remediate the vulnerability and strengthen security measures.
“We promptly investigated the issue with the assistance of an independent cybersecurity firm, remediated the vulnerability, engaged with law enforcement, and took steps to further reinforce the security of our systems,” the district’s letter read.
Other districts affected
Frontline Education also notified Waco ISD, Fort Worth ISD and Crowley ISD that they were impacted. Waco ISD confirmed that student information was not involved, and Fort Worth and Crowley districts issued statements to staff and families.
While the breach’s full impact on Arlington ISD students remains unclear, the district is seeking clarification on whether any student records were compromised.
What parents and staff can do
Anyone who received a notice should consider enrolling in the offered credit‑monitoring service and remain vigilant for any signs of identity theft. The district encourages affected individuals to use the dedicated hotline for further assistance.
Arlington ISD will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as more information becomes available.
