Fort Smith residents and visitors have a reason to celebrate creativity this weekend. The fourth annual Red Autumn Art Festival opens its doors on Friday, Nov. 6, and continues through Saturday, Nov. 7, at the Wyndham Fort Smith City Center. Admission is free, and the event runs from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day.
Indoor art market showcases regional talent
The festival’s centerpiece is an indoor art market held in the hotel’s Grand Ballroom. More than 60 regional artists will display original work across a wide range of mediums, including paintings, photography, ceramics, jewelry, fiber art, glass, woodworking, metalwork and sculpture. Shoppers can browse, meet the creators and purchase pieces directly from the artists.
Special exhibitions highlight emerging and established artists
Two curated exhibitions will run in the adjacent Judge Parker Room. “The Future of Now” student showcase spotlights rising young artists, giving them a platform to share fresh perspectives. The “Crossroads” juried exhibition features work by artists participating in the festival, selected for quality and originality.
Live entertainment and film screenings add extra flair
Beyond visual art, the festival offers live entertainment and independent film screenings. While the exact schedule is still being finalized, organizers encourage attendees to check the festival website for updates on performances and film showtimes.
Part of a larger downtown arts weekend
Red Autumn is one of several cultural events taking place in downtown Fort Smith this weekend. It runs alongside the Fort Smith International Film Festival, which runs Nov. 5‑7, and the inaugural Garrison Arts Walk on Saturday, Nov. 7. Together, these events provide a vibrant showcase of the city’s artistic community and encourage residents to explore downtown’s shops, restaurants and historic venues.
Origins and growth of Red Autumn
The festival began as a one‑day pop‑up gallery in Sallisaw in 2022. After a successful pilot, the first official Red Autumn Art Festival launched in 2023, drawing more than 60 artists. Organizers say the event has grown each year, becoming a staple of Fort Smith’s cultural calendar.
