Businesses along Main Street in downtown Troy are packing away Halloween decorations and stringing holiday lights as the city prepares for its annual Hometown Holiday Shopping event. The swift transition, noted by Amy Breinich, executive director of Troy Main Street, reflects the community’s enthusiasm for the season.
Holiday sales fuel community programs
Local retailers are rolling out seasonal merchandise and offering special promotions to attract shoppers. The revenue generated during the holiday season provides crucial funding for community initiatives, including youth leagues and sports teams across Miami County. “Our sports teams, youth leagues, and other community activities are supported by local businesses,” Breinich said. “This is where they make the most money and are able to recycle that right back into our community.”
Volunteer‑run nonprofit joins the festivities
Among the downtown shops is For All Seasons, a nonprofit store whose proceeds benefit Ohio’s Hospice. Operated by volunteers and stocked with donated items, the shop offers shoppers a way to give back while they shop. Volunteer Susan Carrigan described the experience as “a lovely way to volunteer for those who are needy.”
Extended hours for holiday shoppers
Merchants are also adjusting operating schedules to accommodate the influx of visitors. “All the shops will have extended hours. We’ll all be ready to welcome people to do their holiday shopping,” Carrigan added.
The Hometown Holiday Shopping event will run through Saturday, inviting residents and visitors alike to enjoy the festive atmosphere, support local businesses, and contribute to the vitality of Troy’s community programs.
