Waynesburg Central football coach Joe Kuhns could not have imagined the success his Raiders would achieve after moving up to the triple‑A level for the 2026 season. The team finished with an 8‑2 record, securing third place in the Interstate Conference behind the Leopards and Warriors and earning the 10th seed in the WPIAL playoffs.
Playoff positioning
The Raiders will open the postseason on the road against seventh‑seeded Aliquippa (6‑3) on Friday night. Kuhn said the confidence of his players and the return of key contributors gave the team a realistic chance to make a deep run.
Offensive firepower
Waynesburg’s offense is anchored by a three‑headed attack. Senior quarterback Teagan Crouse has thrown for 1,702 yards and 21 touchdowns while limiting interceptions to four. He also contributed 855 rushing yards, making him the area’s third‑leading scorer with 108 points.
Running back Ky‑mani Sumpter added 1,191 rushing yards, 17 touchdowns and two two‑point conversions for a total of 106 points, ranking him fourth among local players.
Wide receiver Jack Riccuiti, standing 6‑3, provides a physical advantage in the passing game. Kuhn affectionately calls him “Billy Madison,” noting his ability to dominate matchups and use his size effectively.
Coach’s perspective
Kuhn praised his players for their hard work and character, emphasizing that the group’s dedication extends beyond the field. He highlighted Crouse’s growth, noting that the quarterback’s size (5‑foot‑9) has not limited his impact, and expressed optimism about his future prospects.
“The whole group of them are such hard workers and good kids,” Kuhn said. “It’s one of those groups every once in a while that is just special, and no matter what we’re doing we’re having a good time.”
Looking ahead
With the playoff game against Aliquippa approaching, the Raiders aim to continue their strong performance and prove that their success is no fluke. The community looks forward to supporting the team as they strive for a deeper run in the postseason.
