Girls on the Run Upstate South Carolina is gearing up for its annual Celebrate Your Start 5K, scheduled for Saturday, November 14, at BridgeWay Station in Mauldin. The event, sponsored by Prisma Health, will gather hundreds of girls from grades three through eight for a day of running, celebration, and community support.
Program purpose and community impact
Founded as a nonprofit dedicated to inspiring girls to be joyful, healthy, and confident, Girls on the Run uses a curriculum that blends physical activity with life‑skill lessons. Each season culminates in a 5K celebration that allows participants to showcase the progress they have made both on the track and in personal growth.
“The 5K Celebration is such a special moment for our girls because it gives them an opportunity to recognize just how much they’ve grown throughout the season,” said Marie McDonald, Executive Director of Girls on the Run Upstate South Carolina. “Every girl arrives at the starting line with her own journey, and every finish line is worth celebrating. We’re grateful to have a community that shows up to encourage them, celebrate their accomplishments and remind them of what they’re capable of.”
Event details
The race will start at 9:00 a.m. and is open to all girls enrolled in the program, as well as their families and supporters. Participants will receive a commemorative t‑shirt, a finisher’s medal, and a photo to mark the occasion. After the run, volunteers will host a short ceremony featuring music, refreshments, and brief remarks from program leaders.
Prisma Health’s sponsorship underscores the partnership between local health providers and youth‑focused organizations. By supporting the event, Prisma Health helps promote active lifestyles and preventive health measures for children in the Upstate region.
