Newly released body‑camera video from the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office captures the rapid response to a deadly shooting at the Citibank campus in Tampa’s Sabal Center on Wednesday. The footage shows deputies arriving within a minute of the first 911 call at 12:11 p.m., asking bystanders for a description of the suspect as they entered the sprawling business complex.
Incident details
According to authorities, the suspect drove through a fence at the Sabal Park Office Development, crashed into an outdoor seating area and opened fire, killing a woman before moving inside the building’s cafeteria. A deputy reports that the vehicle had collided with the property and that the gunman was inside the cafeteria when officers arrived.
In the video, a deputy can be heard requesting a suspect description while other officers coordinate their entry. Shortly after, an officer announces, “Shooter is down,” as the armed Citibank security guard engages the gunman in an exchange of gunfire. The guard’s actions are credited with stopping the threat before further harm could occur.
Response and statements
The sheriff’s office said more than 3,200 people were on the campus when the shooting unfolded, prompting a massive response of over 400 law‑enforcement personnel, including 367 deputies. Sheriff Chad Chronister praised the security team, stating, “Thanks to the brave actions by the security team on‑site and more than 365 deputies, this unhinged suspect was stopped before he could harm anyone else.” The gunman was later pronounced dead at Tampa General Hospital.
