Knoxville honors late Commissioner Carson Dailey and celebrates local business, health and arts leaders

Knoxville families and faith‑based communities gathered this week to honor the lasting impact of former Knox County Commissioner Carson Dailey, whose dedication to a cleaner environment helped shape the county’s public‑service spirit.

Dailey’s environmental legacy

Keep Knoxville Beautiful paid tribute in its November newsletter, noting Dailey’s advocacy for funding that expanded litter‑cleanup crews and educational programs. He secured the grant that purchased the organization’s service truck, making it easier for volunteers to transport supplies across the county. Beyond his official role, Dailey organized two Adopt‑A‑Road groups, regularly joined South Knoxville clean‑ups, and helped remove illegally placed signs. When his health declined, staff sent him photos of signs removed on his behalf—a tradition the group will continue in his memory.

His service earned the Felicia Award at the 2022 Orchids Beautification Awards and the Keep Tennessee Beautiful Leader Against Litter Award in 2025. Keep Knoxville Beautiful extended condolences to his wife Tammy and their family, emphasizing that Dailey’s spirit lives on in the volunteers who keep the city tidy.

Volunteer impact continues

In October, Keep Knoxville Beautiful reported 49 clean‑up events with 1,083 volunteers, removing 9,390 pounds of litter from 70 miles of roadsides and public spaces. Educational programs reached 1,113 residents, reinforcing the community’s commitment to stewardship. The organization invites volunteers to the next “Spruce Up” event on Saturday, November 14, from 10 a.m. to noon in the West Depot Avenue area.

Local business excellence

Knoxville‑based public‑relations firm Ripley PR, founded by Heather Ripley, was named the 2026‑27 PR Agency of the Year for the Southeast by the Corporate LiveWire Prestige Awards—its third such honor. The award recognizes small and midsize businesses for client service, innovation, ethical practices and consistent performance. Ripley PR specializes in skilled‑trade, franchising, manufacturing and B2B‑technology clients, building trusted relationships with contractors and manufacturers.

Ripley PR also earned its ninth consecutive spot on Entrepreneur magazine’s Top Franchise Suppliers list and a silver award for Outstanding PR Campaign at the 2026 TITAN American Business Awards. “Winning this award says a lot about the relationships we’ve built with our clients and the work our team puts in every day,” Ripley said.

Healthcare leadership

Covenant Health celebrated two leaders named to Becker’s Healthcare’s 2026 list of Health IT and Revenue Cycle Up‑and‑Comers. Tiffany Cross, senior vice president and chief information officer, has served the organization for nearly three decades and is driving digital health tools, online scheduling, virtual services and the eCare platform. Robert Boos, senior vice president of revenue cycle, joined in March 2026 and focuses on improving patient financial experiences while keeping caregivers central to operations.

Executive vice president and chief financial officer Joe Dolan praised both leaders, saying, “Their work helps strengthen our organization, support our caregivers and improve the experience of the patients and communities we serve.” Their recognition underscores how technology and financial stewardship enhance the quality of care for Knoxville families.

Arts & culture growth

The Arts & Culture Alliance of Greater Knoxville released its fiscal 2026 annual report, highlighting partnerships, grants and projects that nurture the region’s creative community. A new hospital gallery at the University of Tennessee Medical Center now showcases work by 44 member artists. The Bailey Opportunity Grant program supported 24 individual artists and three emerging arts organizations.

The alliance also coordinated Make Music Day on June 21, bringing musicians and residents together for performances across Knoxville. Looking ahead, the ambitious “Furnace” immersive light theater—under construction beneath the Jackson Avenue ramp—is 75 % complete, with an opening slated for 2027. Since 2011, the alliance has directed more than $10 million to local artists and organizations, reinforcing the cultural and economic vitality of the area.

Entrepreneurial recognition

East Knoxville’s Volunteer Balloons, owned by Heike Reagan, earned two honors in 2026: a Best of Tennessee regional award for Knoxville in the Other Event Entertainment Services category and the Knoxville City Votes Platinum Award. Since its 2015 founding, the business has built a reputation for custom event décor, serving families and community gatherings throughout the region.

These stories together illustrate the breadth of leadership and service flourishing in Knoxville—from environmental stewardship and public‑service dedication to business innovation, healthcare advancement, and artistic expression. They reflect the values of faith, family and liberty that strengthen our neighborhoods and inspire future generations.
