Downtown Akron will host the Smells Like Snow Coffee Festival Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., offering fans of the long‑running series “Gilmore Girls” a day of coffee, music, and nostalgic activities. The event, organized by the Downtown Akron Partnership, honors the show’s iconic love of coffee and Lorelai’s quirky ability to smell impending snow.
Cast and creators on site
Actor John Cabrera, who played Brian Fuller, will attend alongside former castmate Emily Kuroda (Mrs. Kim) and Valerie Campbell, a costumer who worked on both the original series and the Netflix revival. Cabrera noted that the show’s fan base now spans generations, with many mothers introducing the series to their children.
Family‑friendly festivities
Festival activities include a dance‑a‑thon, a Bop It! competition, coffee‑mug decorating, and local troubadours performing songs that reference memorable moments from the series. Sixteen local coffee vendors, such as Sappho and Her Beans, Bereka Coffee, Artisan Coffee, and Cool Coffee Co., will serve a variety of brews.
Art and community involvement
Although actress Keiko Agena (Lane Kim) will not be present, her artwork will be displayed at the Art x Love gallery from Friday through Nov. 14, alongside pieces by Cabrera and Campbell. Agena, who also creates detailed ink and graphite drawings, said her artistic practice helps her explore personal questions.
Campbell, who has been a regular at Gilmore Girls fan festivals since 2016, shared that many fans are mothers and daughters who appreciate the show’s focus on strong family relationships. “The fans are the reason the show continues to thrive,” she said.
Community impact
Communications director Dominic Caruso said the festival draws about 5,000 attendees each year, providing a boost to local businesses and reinforcing Akron’s reputation as a vibrant cultural hub.
The Smells Like Snow Coffee Festival is free to the public and welcomes fans of all ages to celebrate the enduring charm of “Gilmore Girls” while supporting downtown Akron’s coffee scene.
