DOJ Deploys Federal Election Monitors to Mobile County for Tuesday’s Vote

Mobile residents will see federal election monitors at polling locations on Tuesday, as the Department of Justice (DOJ) expands its unprecedented nationwide oversight of elections. According to Fox 10, the DOJ’s Civil Rights Division dispatched monitors to three Alabama counties—Jefferson, Montgomery and Mobile—marking the first time the agency has placed observers in all 50 states during a single election cycle.

Under Alabama state law, the monitors cannot enter the interior of polling sites; instead, they are positioned with greeters outside the doors to watch for any potential violations of federal voting‑rights statutes. The DOJ says the observers are there to ensure that those laws are being followed, reinforcing the administration’s commitment to election integrity.

Mobile County Probate Judge Mark Erwin confirmed he had spoken with Justice Department officials the week before the election. Erwin told Fox 10 that he expects six to eight observers in Mobile County and that he has “no concern about disruptions to voting on Tuesday.” He added that the monitors have received instructions from the DOJ, though he could not specify the exact nature of those directives.

While the precise precincts where the observers will be stationed have not been disclosed, the presence of federal monitors is intended to provide an additional layer of communication and rapid response should any issues arise. Erwin noted that Mobile County typically maintains a liaison with the DOJ on Election Day, a practice that helps address concerns promptly.

Election officials across the state have welcomed the added oversight, emphasizing that the monitors are a routine part of the DOJ’s effort to safeguard voting rights. The deployment aligns with the Trump administration’s broader focus on protecting the integrity of the electoral process while ensuring that all eligible voters can cast their ballots without undue interference.

What’s next: The federal observers will be on site throughout Tuesday’s voting hours. Voters in Mobile County should expect the usual polling experience, with the added reassurance that federal officials are monitoring compliance with voting‑rights laws. Election results are expected to be reported later on Tuesday night.
