McKinney residents learned Thursday that Lindsey Post, a former athletic trainer at McKinney North High School, was sentenced to five years in prison after pleading guilty to sexual assault of a child and an improper relationship between an educator and a student.
According to Fox 4, Post entered her guilty plea on October 16, acknowledging the charges involving a 14‑year‑old girl she was treating for a broken arm. The Collin County District Attorney’s Office confirmed the plea and the five‑year sentence, noting that Post must register as a sex offender for the rest of her life.
East Texas Radio reported that prosecutors said Post groomed the student while providing physical therapy before sexually assaulting her. The abuse allegedly began in 2025 and continued through January 2026. While out on bond, Post violated her release conditions by speaking with the victim on the phone, a breach noted by both Fox 4 and CBS News.
CBS News added that the victim told her parents about the abuse on January 27, prompting a police investigation that uncovered explicit messages between Post and the student. The investigation also revealed that the assaults took place inside Post’s vehicle in a neighborhood, as described in the police affidavit cited by Fox 4.
Following the allegations, the McKinney ISD Board of Trustees placed Post on administrative leave and voted on February 26 to terminate her employment, according to CBS News.
The victim’s family has filed a $1 million lawsuit against both Post and McKinney ISD, alleging sexual assault and gross negligence by the district for allowing the student to be alone with the trainer. The lawsuit, referenced by Fox 4, claims the district failed to provide a bus for a school event on the day of the first documented assault, creating conditions that enabled the abuse.
District Attorney Greg Willis, quoted by both Fox 4 and CBS News, said, “This woman used her position as a high school athletic trainer to groom and sexually assault a student she was treating. Adults who abuse the trust placed in them by students will be held accountable.”
What’s next: The lawsuit against McKinney ISD and Post is pending in Collin County court. The district has not publicly commented on any policy changes, but the case underscores the importance of safeguarding students and monitoring staff‑student interactions.
