Omaha voters will decide on Nov. 3 whether to approve a $30 million bond that would fund a major renovation of Tranquility Park in northwest Omaha. The measure, championed by local nonprofit Trails Have Our Respect, aims to transform the park into a regional sports destination and spur economic growth.
Project details and expected benefits
Supporters say the first phase would replace the existing grass soccer fields with synthetic turf, expand the number of fields from 12 to 16, install new lighting for night games, and add flood‑control systems. “You add those things together, we are going to be able to pull tournaments that used to go to Kansas City, tournaments that used to go to Des Moines now they are going to go to Omaha,” said Nate Dodge, chair of the Building A Better Omaha campaign.
Dodge estimates the upgraded facilities could host sixteen tournaments, generating roughly $36 million in revenue for the community. He also noted that, if the bond passes, a hotel, restaurant and retail area are planned for Fort Street, further boosting the local economy.
Community and family impact
Jason Brummels, executive director of Trails Have Our Respect, emphasizes that the bond would keep trails accessible both at Tranquility Park and across Omaha. “This will be for families that haven’t even started to have kids yet,” he said, underscoring the long‑term benefits for current and future residents.
The bond measure reflects a broader effort to create a regional‑scale competition venue integrated with a trail system and bike park, providing new recreational opportunities for families and sports enthusiasts alike.
How to vote
Voters can cast their ballots on Nov. 3. The measure appears on the ballot as a $30 million bond referendum for Tranquility Park improvements. For more information on voting locations and procedures, visit the Omaha elections website.
