Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested Jessica Johnson, 37, on Tuesday morning after a stolen‑vehicle pursuit ended with a PIT maneuver and a collision involving a patrol car. The incident unfolded in Tampa’s University district, highlighting the swift response of local law‑enforcement to protect public safety.
Sequence of events
At approximately 8:40 a.m., deputies were alerted by the Tampa Police Department that a vehicle had been reported stolen. The suspect vehicle was traveling north on North 15th Street from East 122nd Avenue. Deputies located the car parked at a business complex at 1509 E. Fletcher Avenue and activated emergency lights, attempting to box the vehicle in for a safe arrest.
According to the sheriff’s office, Johnson ignored repeated commands to stop, accelerated away, and during the escape nearly struck a responding deputy before ramming the side of a patrol vehicle. Deputies pursued the suspect and performed a precision immobilization technique (PIT) near North 37th Street and Cambridge Woods Drive, bringing the vehicle to a stop.
