WILMINGTON MANOR, Del. — A serious traffic collision occurred early Wednesday morning, leaving a female driver in critical condition. The crash happened at approximately 8:45 a.m. near the intersection of Basin Road and Washington Avenue.
According to Delaware State Police, the first vehicle involved rolled over after the driver was ejected from the car. Emergency responders rushed the woman to a nearby hospital, where she remains in extremely critical condition. The male driver of the second vehicle involved received treatment at the scene and was not reported to have life‑threatening injuries.
Police officials confirmed that an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the rollover. Officers are gathering witness statements, reviewing traffic camera footage, and examining the vehicles for mechanical issues that may have contributed to the accident.
Community response and safety reminder
Local residents expressed concern over the severity of the crash, noting that the area sees a steady flow of traffic during morning commute hours. Community leaders urged drivers to practice safe driving habits, especially wearing seat belts, which can dramatically reduce the risk of ejection during a collision.
“We want to remind everyone that seat belts save lives,” said a spokesperson for the Wilmington Manor Police Department. “When a vehicle rolls over, an unrestrained occupant can be thrown from the vehicle, leading to the kind of tragic injuries we are seeing today.”
The Delaware State Police continue to investigate the incident. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
