Dallas – In a coordinated effort that began on June 1 and concluded on September 20, the FBI’s Dallas field office announced the results of its Summer Heat 2.0 operation, a focused campaign to combat violent crime throughout North Texas.
Operation outcomes
The operation produced 186 arrests of individuals charged with violent offenses. Law‑enforcement officials also secured 71 convictions and obtained 169 indictments against suspects linked to the crackdown.
Child safety was a central priority. The FBI and partner agencies identified or located 49 child victims during the sweep, providing relief to families and demonstrating the agency’s commitment to protecting the most vulnerable.
In addition to the arrests, the operation seized 121 illegal firearms, 1.2 kilograms of fentanyl and 33 kilograms of cocaine, striking a blow against the flow of dangerous weapons and narcotics into the community.
National impact
Summer Heat 2.0 is part of a broader national initiative. Across the United States, the FBI reports 8,927 arrests, the recovery of 5,013 illegally possessed weapons, and the seizure of 27,512 kilograms of cocaine and 687 kilograms of fentanyl – an amount equal to roughly 52 million lethal doses. The agency also located or identified 1,410 child victims nationwide.
Law‑enforcement partnership
“At the core of the FBI’s violent crime strategy are the partnerships we maintain with local, state, and federal law‑enforcement agencies,” said FBI Dallas Special Agent in Charge R. Joseph Rothrock. “By leveraging these relationships, we made significant progress on reducing violent crime in North Texas. Fighting crime is a responsibility we all share. The FBI remains committed to working with our partners to make our communities safer.”
Local police departments, sheriff’s offices and state troopers collaborated closely with federal agents, sharing intelligence and resources that amplified the reach of the operation.
Community reassurance
Residents of Dallas, Fort Worth, Plano, Irving and surrounding suburbs can take comfort in the tangible results of the operation. The removal of illegal firearms and dangerous narcotics, combined with the rescue of child victims, reflects a proactive stance against the threats that undermine family safety and neighborhood stability.
Authorities encourage community members to remain vigilant and to report suspicious activity. Continued cooperation between citizens and law‑enforcement is essential for sustaining the gains achieved by Summer Heat 2.0 and for preventing future violent incidents.
Looking ahead
The FBI plans to build on the success of Summer Heat 2.0 with additional targeted operations throughout 2027, focusing on high‑risk areas and continuing to prioritize the protection of children and the disruption of illegal firearms and drug trafficking networks.
