Fort Worth LDS Temple Opens for Public Viewing in Burleson

Fort Worth’s long‑standing Latter‑day Saints community celebrates a milestone as the new temple in Burleson opens its doors for a limited‑time public open house. From November 5 through November 21, excluding Sundays, visitors can explore the 30,000‑square‑foot sanctuary located at 1851 Greenridge Drive. After the open house, the temple will be reserved for members of the Church for worship, marriage ceremonies and other sacred rites.

Historical roots in North Texas

The first Mormon missionaries arrived in Fort Worth in the early 20th century, holding baptisms in Rockwood Park at a bend in the Trinity River. The inaugural conversion, Juanita May James, was recorded in 1915. By 1920, a modest group of 28 believers had formed the North Texas Division, and the Church officially established a Fort Worth branch on March 3, 1922.

Early congregants met in rented spaces such as the Elks Hall on Main Street and later purchased a corner lot at 21st and Clinton in 1928, building a modest chapel that served the community until 1952. A second, larger stone‑and‑brick church rose on West 7th Street in 1952, drawing more than 500 worshippers for its dedication.

Growth to a regional presence

Today the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter‑day Saints maintains 43 congregations, 12 chapels and 14 meetinghouses throughout Tarrant County. The new Burleson temple joins a network of sacred buildings that serve as spiritual anchors for families across North Texas.

Construction of the temple began two years ago on a nine‑acre site. The design, reminiscent of a grand cathedral, reflects the Church’s emphasis on reverence, family unity and community service—principles that align with the values of many Fort Worth families.

Open house details

Visitors may attend daily from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., with guided tours highlighting the temple’s architecture, ordinance rooms and the symbolic garden surrounding the building. The open house offers a rare opportunity for non‑members to witness the interior spaces that will soon host sacred ordinances such as marriage sealings and baptisms for the dead.

For more information, including parking guidance and accessibility accommodations, readers can visit the Church’s official website.

Community impact

The temple’s presence is expected to bolster local businesses, particularly in hospitality and retail, as visitors travel from across the Dallas‑Fort Worth metroplex. Faith‑focused families see the temple as a testament to the enduring legacy of early missionaries who braved the Trinity River’s currents to share their beliefs.

Local leaders have praised the project for its potential to draw tourism and reinforce the region’s reputation as a place where faith, family and freedom thrive together.
