Mid-America Science Museum launches Home School Day for Arkansas families

Hot Springs, Ark. – The Mid‑America Science Museum is opening its doors to home‑school families for a brand‑new event called Home School Day, scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 4. The museum, now an approved vendor for Arkansas’ Education Freedom Account (EFA) program, will provide a twice‑yearly series of hands‑on workshops, theater performances and interactive activities designed specifically for home‑school students.

Program details and pricing

Home School Day runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Nov. 4. Admission for students is $15, which includes general museum entry, one workshop and two theater shows. Adults accompanying the students must purchase general admission separately. The day’s schedule features two workshop options – “Bones & Beaks,” a look at anatomy and natural history, and “Ready, Set, Code!” which introduces basic programming concepts. Both workshops are offered at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., giving families flexibility to choose the time that works best for them.

In addition to the workshops, the Discovery Table and Tinkering Studio will host a variety of hands‑on activities, allowing children to explore science through play and experimentation. Highlights include a demonstration in the Tesla Theater and a show in the Digital Dome, both of which are included in the student admission price.

Using Education Freedom Account funds

Because the museum is an approved EFA vendor, eligible families can apply their EFA funds toward museum expenses such as memberships, admission fees, camps and other educational programs. Families may purchase memberships directly and submit receipts for reimbursement through ClassWallet, or they can request an invoice from the museum for direct payment approval. This flexibility helps parents stretch their education budgets while providing enriching experiences for their children.

Comments from museum leadership

“Home‑school families are an important part of the community we serve, and we want to make sure they have access to hands‑on learning opportunities,” said Noreen Killen, interim CEO of the Mid‑America Science Museum. “Accepting EFA funds helps us reach more families, and we hope to build on this program with additional offerings specifically for home‑school students.”

Looking ahead

The museum has already scheduled the next Home School Day for Feb. 24, 2027, signaling a commitment to an ongoing partnership with Arkansas’ school‑choice community. Parents interested in attending can find more information about the event and EFA payment options on the museum’s website.

Located at 500 Mid America Blvd. in Hot Springs, the Mid‑America Science Museum continues to serve as a hub for curiosity, discovery and family‑focused education throughout the region.
