President Trump is scheduled to address a crowd at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center on Tuesday, prompting a series of downtown traffic and safety measures that will affect residents and visitors alike, according to KFYO.
Starting at 10 p.m. on Monday, October 26, the city will close 9th Street from Avenue O to Avenue L, Mac Davis Lane from Avenue O to Avenue L, and Avenue O from Mac Davis Lane to 9th Street. The only vehicle entrance remaining will be at 8th Street, while the primary public entrance to the Civic Center will shift to the west side of the facility.
The City of Lubbock has warned that any vehicle left in the Civic Center parking lot overnight through Tuesday morning will be towed. No fees will be charged for the return of those vehicles, which are slated to be returned to the same location on Wednesday.
Pedestrian traffic and parking around the Civic Center will cease at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, and pedestrians will be barred from crossing the parking lot. Anticipating severe traffic, city officials are highly encouraging ride‑share services for the entire day. A Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) covering a 10‑nautical‑mile radius around the Civic Center will also be in effect, restricting piloted drones.
Designated protestors will be confined to a specific area in the parking lot of the MCM Elegante. In addition, three city facilities—the Mahon Library, the Civic Center Administrative Offices, and the Silent Wings Museum—will remain closed on Tuesday and resume normal hours on Wednesday.
Residents are advised to plan alternate routes, use ride‑share options, and avoid the closed streets and pedestrian zones. The city will provide updates through its official website and local media as the event unfolds.
What’s next: The Civic Center will reopen to the public on Wednesday, with normal traffic patterns restored. The Mahon Library, Civic Center Administrative Offices, and Silent Wings Museum will also resume regular business hours on that day.
