Wichita, Kan. – On Monday, Wichita’s Littlest Heroes hosted its inaugural charity golf tournament at Crestview Country Club. The event brought together community leaders, local businesses and supporters to raise money for the nonprofit’s growing portfolio of financial assistance programs.
Fundraising purpose and impact
According to Briana Gallegos, a spokesperson for Littlest Heroes, the tournament’s proceeds will be directed toward a range of critical services. “We are using the funds for financial assistance, which is one of the big things we do. We are paying mortgages. We just helped a family with a flight to Houston for cancer treatment. So, there’s lots of different things that financial assistance is used for,” Gallegos explained.
Community participation and atmosphere
The day featured a friendly competition, prizes for top scores, catered food and ample networking opportunities. Attendees described the event as both enjoyable and purposeful. “When you ask a family, they most often say the community support that we get, so the events that their kids can go to, and it’s very inclusive. They feel as if they are part of something without feeling different,” Gallegos added.
Parents of children receiving services praised the nonprofit’s work. Shawna Ammons, a parent who described herself as a “hero” supporter, said, “A community of other people that understand what we’re going through.”
How to support Littlest Heroes
For those who could not attend but wish to contribute, donations are accepted through the organization’s website. Every contribution helps expand the reach of financial assistance, from covering medical travel costs to preventing families from losing their homes.
