HENDERSON, Ky. – Starting Monday evening, Oct. 2, the Henderson Police Department will begin a series of low‑light firearms training sessions at its municipal range. The training runs each weekday night until Nov. 7, with the exception of Oct. 31 and Nov. 1, and will take place between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m.
Why the training matters
According to a department spokesperson, regular training is essential for officers to stay proficient in the skills needed to protect the community. “These exercises help officers practice skills that improve safety, decision‑making and preparedness for situations that happen at night,” the spokesperson said.
What residents can expect
During the training windows, officers will fire semi‑automatic rifles and pistols in a controlled range environment. The department expects the sound of gunfire to be audible in nearby neighborhoods, especially after dark. Residents are asked not to panic or call 911 unless they suspect an actual emergency. The police will post signage at the range and will monitor the area to ensure the training proceeds safely.
Community reassurance
Henderson officials emphasize that the training is a routine part of law‑enforcement readiness and does not indicate any heightened threat to the public. “Our goal is to keep our officers prepared so they can serve and protect the community as effectively and safely as possible,” the spokesperson added.
