Allouez, WI — When most Milwaukee Brewers fans think of supporting their team, they picture a trip to Miller Park. For Nick Griffie, a devoted fan of “forever,” the ultimate show of loyalty meant a 1,500‑mile drive from his hometown to the Tampa Bay area for Game 3 of the World Series.
Why the road trip?
Griffie and his wife discovered tickets for the World Series game in St. Petersburg, Florida, and decided that driving would be the best way to attend. “My brother‑in‑law wanted to go to World Series games, but we looked at the prices and we’re not happy with it,” Griffie explained. “On the other hand, I always like to drive places and given my condition of ALS I’m not really a flyer anymore. It’s not something I can do because of that. My wife and I decided to drive. This would be my best one last time to see a World Series game we decided to go to Tampa anyways.”
Family and faith on the road
The journey also gave Griffie a chance to spend quality time with his wife, sharing moments of prayer and gratitude along the way. “We’re thankful for the health we have and the ability to travel together,” he said, noting that his faith has been a source of strength throughout his battle with ALS.
Community response
Friends and fellow Brewers fans in the Fox Cities region rallied around Griffie, offering encouragement and sending care packages for the long drive. Local businesses in Allouez and nearby Green Bay posted supportive messages on social media, highlighting the community’s pride in a fan willing to go the extra mile—literally—for his team.
Game day in Florida
Arriving in St. Petersburg, Griffie and his wife settled into a modest hotel near Tropicana Field. The couple expressed excitement to watch the Brewers compete on baseball’s biggest stage, hoping the team’s performance would bring a sense of triumph back home to Wisconsin.
Looking ahead
While Griffie’s health condition limits future travel, he remains hopeful that his story will inspire other fans facing challenges to pursue their passions. “If I can make this trip, anyone can find a way to support what they love,” he said, adding that the experience will be a cherished memory for his family.
