On Saturday morning, Oct. 24, Ann Morrison Park in Boise was filled with the sounds of laughter, the rustle of leaves and the sight of superheroes, dinosaurs and even giant snails as families took part in the Treasure Valley Family YMCA Halloween Run.
Community Fitness and Fun
The annual Halloween Run, organized by the Treasure Valley Family YMCA, is designed to get people of all ages moving outdoors while celebrating the season. Participants ranged from seasoned runners to parents pushing strollers, children in creative costumes and casual walkers, all united by a shared love of community and health.
Costumes Take Center Stage
Costumes were the highlight of the event. Runners sported everything from inflatable snails—perhaps not the most aerodynamic choice—to classic superhero capes, beloved Minions and even the iconic Stay‑Puft Marshmallow Man. The colorful display underscored the event’s emphasis on family fun over competition.
Scenic Setting
Fall foliage painted the park in brilliant yellows, oranges and reds, providing a picturesque backdrop for the run. The sun shone brightly, and the YMCA’s signature starting arch welcomed participants as they set off on the course.
More Runs on the Calendar
For those who missed the Halloween Run, the YMCA has two additional events planned before the year ends. The YMCA Thanksgiving Leftovers Fun Run will take place on Saturday, Nov. 28, also at Ann Morrison Park. It offers a one‑mile run or walk and a 5K, with leftover race merchandise—shirts, hats and medals—available on a first‑come, first‑served basis.
Later in December, the YMCA Christmas Run is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 19, at Boise High School. Runners can choose from a one‑mile Reindeer Dash, a two‑mile run or walk, and a six‑mile run or walk. As with the Halloween Run, costumes are encouraged, with participants expected to don Santa hats, elves, reindeer antlers and even ugly Christmas sweaters. Santa himself will be on hand to kick off the festivities.
Supporting the Community
These events reflect the YMCA’s commitment to fostering healthy, active lifestyles while strengthening community bonds. Volunteers, sponsors and YMCA staff worked together to ensure a safe, enjoyable experience for all attendees.
Whether you are a serious athlete or simply enjoy a morning walk with family, the YMCA’s seasonal runs provide a welcoming opportunity to stay fit, celebrate the holidays and connect with neighbors in the Treasure Valley.
