Tyler Junior College celebrates 12th annual Halloween trunk‑or‑treat at Mike Carter Field

Tyler Junior College marked its 12th annual Halloween trunk‑or‑treat at Mike Carter Field, providing a safe, family‑focused celebration for the Tyler community. According to KLTV, the event featured two hours of trunk‑or‑treating, face painting, a bounce house and a variety of games for children before the start of the Apache baseball team’s Halloween scrimmage.

Local resident Terrence Louis brought his children to the event, describing it as a growing family tradition. “We’ve been coming kind of for the last three or four years. Just kind of making it a family tradition,” Louis said. He praised the enclosed parking‑lot setting, noting that the lack of through traffic made it easy for kids to run around safely. “Everything’s kind of in one spot. Closed off. Parking lot. No through traffic. So it’s pretty cool to just let the kids run around. Let them have fun,” he added.

The Apache baseball team added to the festivities with its annual Halloween scrimmage, during which players took the field in costumes ranging from Spider‑Man and Shrek to a Power Ranger. Freshman pitcher Major Richardson, who was on a recruiting visit earlier in the year, said this was his first time experiencing the tradition in person. “When I came on the recruiting visit and they talked to me about the whole place, the Halloween game was something that they brought up first. Just a tradition that they’ve had here for a very long time. And it’s really cool to finally be able to experience it,” Richardson explained.

The event also gave new players a chance to meet the families who support them, while families enjoyed meeting the athletes and participating in trick‑or‑treat activities. The combination of community engagement and school spirit underscores the college’s commitment to providing a family‑friendly environment.

Apache baseball’s season is set to begin in the spring, and the Halloween scrimmage serves as a preview of the team’s upcoming schedule. Organizers hope the event will continue to grow, reinforcing a safe, enjoyable space for Tyler families each October.

What’s next: The college plans to hold its next trunk‑or‑treat event next October, continuing the tradition of family‑focused fun and a costumed baseball scrimmage.
