OG&E hearing on data‑center tariff postponed to Jan. 12, 2027

Oklahoma regulators have delayed the public hearing on Oklahoma Gas & Electric’s (OG&E) proposed large‑load tariff for data centers, pushing the date from Nov. 3, 2026 to Jan. 12, 2027. The postponement means Tulsa households and small businesses will wait longer for a decision on how the costs of powering massive electricity users are allocated.

According to KTUL, the case—filed as Oklahoma Corporation Commission Case No. PUD2026-000046—centers on whether large electricity customers, such as data centers, should pay for the power plants, transmission lines, and other infrastructure needed to serve them. OG&E seeks approval for a tariff that would require these customers to make financial commitments that protect existing customers from bearing those costs.

OG&E’s emailed response to Tulsa’s News Pulse outlined the key components of the proposal: large users would have to pay for infrastructure built specifically for them, sign long‑term, binding contracts, incur substantial minimum bills even if they use less power than projected, pay fees for early reduction of commitments, and provide financial security to back those obligations. The utility emphasized that “current customers should never pay for the impact of bringing large‑load customers onto the electric grid.”

Google is also participating in the proceeding. The tech giant advocates for allowing large customers to purchase electricity from independent generators while still using OG&E’s grid for delivery. Google argues that this option could reduce the need for OG&E to construct new, expensive power plants.

OG&E counters that such arrangements might let large users pay less toward the utility’s existing plants while continuing to rely on its system, potentially shifting costs to other ratepayers if the large user does not fully cover backup power needs. Both sides contend that the dispute hinges on whether state law permits large customers to buy power elsewhere while remaining connected to OG&E’s grid.

The hearing delay does not approve any rate increase or determine how costs will ultimately be divided. Regulators will use the additional time to consider legal questions raised by other parties’ proposals, including whether the law allows the third‑party power purchases that Google proposes.

Commissioners have scheduled the next hearing for Jan. 12, 2027, providing the final opportunity for stakeholders to present evidence and arguments before a decision is made. The outcome could affect electricity bills for Tulsa residents if large‑load customers are required to shoulder more of the infrastructure costs, or conversely, could lower future rates if outside power purchases reduce the need for new utility construction.

What’s next: Interested parties can review filings, testimony, and orders using the case number PUD2026-000046 in the commission’s Electronic Case Filing system. The commission’s October 21 scheduling order is publicly available, and the Jan. 12 hearing will be the next chance for Oklahoma regulators to decide the tariff rules that could shape electricity costs for years to come.
