Hillsborough County deputies arrested William Tolbert, 46, on Thursday following a traffic stop near the intersection of East Hillsborough Avenue and Orient Road in Tampa. The stop was part of a routine patrol by the Sheriff’s Office Drug Interdiction Unit, which had identified Tolbert as a wanted individual with an active warrant for cannabis delivery.
Arrest and Charges
Deputies, assisted by the sheriff’s K9 and aviation units, pulled Tolbert’s Chevrolet pickup truck over on Oct. 22. After the vehicle was secured, investigators searched the interior and discovered powder cocaine and crack cocaine stored in a pill bottle. Tolbert admitted that the substances belonged to him.
He now faces two counts of possession of cocaine, possession of cannabis sativa resin, possession of cannabis weighing less than 20 grams, and driving without a valid driver’s license, in addition to the outstanding warrant for cannabis delivery.
Law‑Enforcement Response
The swift action by the Drug Interdiction Unit highlights the ongoing effort by Hillsborough County law‑enforcement to combat drug trafficking and protect the community. The involvement of both K9 and aviation resources underscores the department’s commitment to thorough investigations and public safety.
Authorities have not released further details about Tolbert’s background or potential connections to larger drug networks. The case remains under investigation.
