Mount Laurel teen launches candy business to fund animal shelters

Mount Laurel, N.J. – When most kids her age are busy with schoolwork and play, seven‑year‑old Siena has been busy building a small business that benefits the community. Inspired by the family’s rescued dog, she founded Siena’s Candy Jar, a venture that creates and sells custom gummy candy mixes at festivals, fairs and other local gatherings.

From a backyard idea to a community staple

“She started with a little girl and a dream to give back to our animal rescue, where we adopted our family dog,” said Siena’s mother, Christine, who helps manage the operation. The candy mixes are handcrafted at home, with Siena selecting flavors and textures that appeal to both kids and adults. Each batch is packaged in colorful jars that showcase the playful branding of the young entrepreneur.

Since its debut, Siena’s Candy Jar has become a regular feature at Mount Laurel Community Day and other regional events. The team sets up a bright table filled with an assortment of gummy treats, drawing crowds who appreciate both the confectionery and the cause behind it.

Supporting local shelters

What sets Siena’s Candy Jar apart is its charitable mission. A portion of every sale is earmarked for local animal shelters, helping fund food, medical care and adoption programs for dogs and cats in need. “My hope was to bring everybody to the same location, and I think we’ve succeeded,” said Mount Laurel Mayor Stephen Steglik during the recent community day. “It’s gotten bigger and bigger every year. It’s important to remember that we are neighbors, we are friends… and community has to stick together.”

The initiative has resonated with residents who see the project as a tangible example of youth entrepreneurship paired with compassionate giving. Parents report that their children are excited to support a cause while enjoying a sweet treat, and shelter volunteers have expressed gratitude for the additional resources.

Looking ahead

Siena’s Candy Jar plans to expand its reach beyond Mount Laurel, aiming to appear at regional fairs throughout New Jersey. The family hopes to introduce new seasonal flavors and possibly partner with other local businesses to amplify the impact on animal welfare.

For those interested in supporting the cause or purchasing a jar, the candy mixes are available online through the project’s website, which features a gallery of past creations and information on upcoming event appearances.
