Crews broke ground on the Pointe Vista development in Marshall County, Oklahoma, marking the first physical step in a multi‑phase project that includes a Hard Rock Hotel, retail space, residential units and a Discovery Center.
Voter‑approved tax plan makes the project possible
About a year ago, county voters approved a tax plan that provided the financing needed for the development. The measure passed with roughly 60% support, despite initial opposition from two county commissioners. District 3 Commissioner Chris Duroy, who was the sole commissioner in favor at the time, recalled the process: “The commissioners at the time were two against it and I was the only one for it. The public disagreed with the commissioners’ opposition. They gathered up a petition and got enough signatures to put it on the ballot.”
Construction begins with water infrastructure
President of Pointe Vista, Grant Speakes, said the crews are currently installing the water infrastructure, which he described as “the first step in the project.” While not the most glamorous part, he emphasized its necessity: “This part of the development really isn’t the most exciting portion of it but before you can run you gotta crawl.”
Timeline and community benefits
Speakes projected that the Hard Rock Hotel, accompanying shops and residences will open in the summer of 2029, with the Discovery Center opening sooner. He highlighted the partnership between the developers, local government and community groups: “We got great partners in the community and at the government level, it’ll make it really easy for the community to come and enjoy the development.”
Commissioner Duroy noted the immediate economic impact: “First the workers that it brings to help build it, they’ll stay at our motels, they’ll eat at our restaurants, they’ll buy food at our grocery stores.” He added that once completed, the development will draw tourists, providing new activities beyond the county’s traditional fishing and outdoor recreation.
Looking ahead
The project is expected to create construction jobs in the short term and permanent positions in hospitality, retail and tourism once the hotel and other amenities open. Local businesses anticipate increased patronage, and the county hopes the development will diversify its economy and raise its profile as a destination for visitors from across Texas and beyond.
