From Prison Cells to Street Ministries: Calvin Bullers’ Journey of Faith and Forgiveness in Orlando

By OBBM Network Editorial Staff

Derived from an episode of Get on The Ark.

What does it take for a former gang leader who spent 17 years behind bars to become a beacon of hope on the streets of Orlando? Calvin Bullers shares a raw, transformative story of prison, loss, and a relentless pursuit of God’s purpose.

From Darkness to a Bible on the Bunk

Calvin Bullers spent a total of 17 years incarcerated, moving between Maryland and Florida prisons. His turning point arrived on Easter Sunday in 2020 while he was confined in Brevard County Jail. After a violent encounter with police, he was placed in a small, windowless room – “the box” – where he found a Bible on the floor of his bunk. “All things work together for the good for those who love God and called according to his purpose,” he recalled hearing in his mind at that moment.

That simple encounter sparked a dramatic shift. Though his knowledge of Scripture had been limited to the Gospels, Bullers began to read, pray, and eventually speak in tongues. Within weeks he reported experiencing demon manifestations and felt called to cast them out in Jesus’ name, marking the start of his frontline ministry in Orlando, Florida.

Street Ministry and the Call to Serve

Upon release, Bullers wasted no time. He described arriving in Orlando on a Friday night and, by Saturday morning, sharing his testimony on a dock while weeping before a cross. “We were doing street ministry pretty much every Saturday from the moment I walked out the door,” he said, emphasizing his commitment to reaching those still trapped in the streets.

His work quickly expanded to a team of men dedicated to evangelism, discipleship, and practical aid. Some of his early collaborators branched out to Tampa to start a similar ministry, illustrating the multiplying effect of his outreach. Bullers also mentioned purchasing a car to better serve the community, highlighting the tangible steps he takes to fulfill his mission.

The Painful Path of Forgiveness

In May 2021, tragedy struck when the woman Bullers loved most was murdered in his home while he was incarcerated. The killer ended up in the same prison, and Bullers was instructed by God to pray for him. He spent nearly five years praying for the murderer, a process that culminated in a powerful encounter.

While recovering from a stabbing that broke his jaw, Bullers met an older inmate who revealed himself as the very man who killed his beloved. “I forgive you for what you did,” Bullers said, describing the moment he wept and spoke those words. The inmate broke down in tears, and Bullers felt a profound release, saying, “Six years ago, I would have put a knife in him. It would have been a completely different situation.” This act of forgiveness underscores the depth of his spiritual transformation.

A Vision for Enraptured Heart

Bullers’ ministry, Enraptured Heart, aims to provide more than evangelism. He envisions job placement, coaching, and secure housing for former convicts, believing that “give him Jesus Christ and give him a job and everything is going to work itself out.” He stresses the need for Christian mentors to guide those transitioning from prison to society, echoing his own experience of needing mentorship after his release.

While he acknowledges the challenges ahead, Bullers remains confident that the “king is coming back” and that the enemy’s time is short. His message is clear: the spiritual storm looming over the generation can be weathered through repentance, forgiveness, and community action.

Broader Implications for Faith Communities

Bullers’ story resonates beyond his personal journey. It highlights a critical gap in support for ex‑offenders—a gap that faith‑based organizations are uniquely positioned to fill. By combining evangelism with practical resources like housing and employment, ministries can help break cycles of recidivism and bring tangible hope to neighborhoods across the nation.

Host Darren Conrad framed the conversation within the larger narrative of “a storm coming, a spiritual storm, dark days ahead for all of humanity,” urging listeners to consider how they might become part of the ark of salvation. As Bullers’ testimony illustrates, transformation is possible even in the darkest places, and the call to action extends to every community willing to extend grace and practical aid.
