Brunch at Kiepersol Estate Is Worth the Drive Out of Town

Around ten on a Sunday morning, the parking lot at Fork & Vine on Old Jacksonville Highway starts filling up with people who planned ahead. That’s not an accident. This is the kind of place where you make a reservation, then make a second one before you leave, because you forgot how good it actually was until you were sitting in front of a plate of cast iron eggs with chorizo and roasted peppers and suddenly you remembered everything.

Fork & Vine sits a few miles southeast of the Loop, away from the restaurant cluster on Broadway, in a low-slung building with a covered patio that catches a cross breeze when the weather cooperates. The inside is warm without being precious — exposed wood, cloth napkins, an open kitchen that lets a little noise into the dining room. It doesn’t feel curated so much as considered. Someone made actual choices here.

The menu leans Southern with sharper edges than you might expect. Brunch runs weekends only, and it’s the meal that best shows off what the kitchen can do. The biscuits are the foundation — thick, layered, slightly salty — and they appear in several forms across the menu. Order them as a side if you can resist the gravy situation, which is a house sausage gravy that runs thick enough to require some structural commitment from the biscuit beneath it. The eggs Benedict uses pulled pork instead of Canadian bacon, which sounds like a novelty until you eat it, after which it sounds like the obvious correct decision.

Lunch and dinner are equally solid. The burger is a short-rib blend with caramelized onions and a sharp cheddar that needs nothing extra. The chicken and waffles — which appears on both the brunch and dinner menu depending on the season — comes with a hot honey that has just enough heat to make you pay attention. Prices are reasonable: brunch entrees generally land between $12 and $18, dinner maybe a few dollars more. Nothing that requires explanation.

What Fork & Vine does better than most Tyler spots its size is pace. The service reads the room well. If you’re catching up with someone over a long meal, no one rushes you. If you’re on a tighter schedule, they notice. It’s not a loud place or a scene, which some people will take as a mark against it and others will take as the whole point.

On weekday mornings, the coffee bar up front handles the early crowd — good drip, a couple of espresso options, nothing that requires a flowchart to order. By eleven, the kitchen is rolling and the patio starts to feel like the right call if the temperature agrees.

Tyler has no shortage of places that do Southern-inspired food, but Fork & Vine does it with less performance. The food tastes like someone cared how it turned out rather than how it photographed. That’s a smaller category than it should be, and it makes the place worth remembering when you’re trying to decide where to spend two hours on a Sunday with someone whose company you actually enjoy.
