Gunman Killed in Shooting Near White House, Bystander Injured

According to the Secret Service, the suspect approached the checkpoint, removed a weapon from a bag, and began firing at the officers. The bystander’s condition has not been disclosed, and the investigation into the incident is ongoing. Fortunately, no Secret Service members were harmed during the exchange.

The suspect, a 21-year-old male, was known to the Secret Service. Court records reveal that he had attempted to breach White House security in the past and had been involuntarily committed for mental health reasons. In a previous incident, he claimed to be “Jesus Christ” and expressed a desire to be arrested.

At the time of the shooting, President Trump was in the Oval Office with aides, and reporters were quickly ushered into the White House Press Briefing Room for safety.
