Fort Worth’s Sundance Square Celebrates World Cup with Soccer Art Installation

As North Texas gears up for the World Cup, Fort Worth’s Sundance Square is leading the charge with a vibrant soccer-themed art installation. The downtown district has unveiled more than two dozen hand-painted soccer balls, crafted by local artists, to kick off a ‘summer of soccer’ ahead of the global tournament.

Visitors to Sundance Square are already feeling the excitement. Fort Worth resident and eighth grader Cadence Minner expressed admiration for the unique designs, noting, ‘They’re really unique — each and every one.’ Erika Maldonado, another Fort Worth resident, made a special trip downtown to see the display before the crowds arrive, exclaiming, ‘Look at the talent!’

Eleven-year-old Lorenzo Otero was particularly taken with a soccer ball painted to resemble the Fort Worth cityscape, highlighting the local pride infused in the artwork. Sundance Square has also been engaging the community by sharing behind-the-scenes videos on Instagram, showcasing the artists at work.

Community Engagement and Global Anticipation

As the World Cup approaches, Sundance Square is set to become a hub for soccer fans. All 104 matches will be broadcast on giant screens, promising an electric atmosphere. Fort Worth resident Harmann Chhabra is eager for the lively environment, saying, ‘I’m just excited for the atmosphere and how loud it’s going to get.’

Meanwhile, Arlington is preparing to host nine matches, with workers installing giant World Cup banners outside the stadium. Fans are eagerly trying to secure tickets, hoping to be part of the international spectacle. Raj Agrawal, visiting North Texas for the summer, is looking forward to the cultural exchange, stating, ‘People coming from different countries bringing their culture, bringing their traditions, all together I think is the biggest thing I’m looking forward to.’

Even those who are not avid soccer fans are getting caught up in the excitement. One local admitted, ‘I’m not really into soccer but I’m gonna watch it to see who wins.’ Fort Worth resident Thomas Sanford has launched a TikTok account to educate Texans about soccer, emphasizing its universal appeal, ‘Soccer is a beautiful game and it’s very connective.’

With anticipation building, communities across North Texas are ready to welcome soccer fans from around the world, celebrating both the sport and the cultural diversity it brings.
