6-Year-Old Dies Days After Oldsmar Crash; 4-Year-Old Released

A crash in Oldsmar, Florida, left a 6-year-old girl dead and a 4-year-old boy hospitalized after an intersection collision, Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office investigators said. The crash happened on Tampa Road near St. Petersburg Drive and involved a Nissan sedan driven by Jayanna Clark and a Tesla driven by Christy Proctor. Officials say the younger child has since been released from the hospital while the older child died from injuries sustained in the crash.

The collision took place shortly after 4:30 p.m., according to investigators who responded to the scene in Oldsmar. Deputies say both vehicles entered the intersection at about the same time and struck each other in the middle of the road. Emergency crews transported multiple people from the scene, and initial reports described two children among the passengers in the Nissan.

Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office reports indicate Jayanna Clark, 27, was driving eastbound on Tampa Road in the Nissan when the crash occurred. Christy Proctor, 52, was in the Tesla facing westbound in the turn lane on Tampa Road, preparing to turn south onto St. Petersburg Drive. Deputies described both cars moving into the intersection from opposite directions and colliding there, leaving the road strewn with wreckage.

After the impact, Proctor was taken to the hospital with minor injuries, authorities said, and Clark also received medical attention for minor wounds. Two child passengers in Clark’s vehicle were transported as well: a 6-year-old girl and a 4-year-old boy. Investigators reported that the 4-year-old suffered serious injuries but was later released, while the 6-year-old sustained life-threatening injuries and died from those injuries on Wednesday.

Investigators on scene indicated that speed appears to have been a factor in the crash, based on preliminary evidence and witness accounts. At this point, deputies say impairment does not appear to be involved in the collision. The physical evidence and officer statements will be compiled and analyzed as the investigation continues to determine the exact sequence of events that led to the crash.

Officials have not publicly disclosed the current medical condition of the two drivers beyond noting their injuries were minor, and they have not announced whether any criminal charges will be filed. Detectives with the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office are collecting statements, reviewing physical evidence, and working to reconstruct the crash. The investigation remains open and active, and further details could emerge as officers complete their work.

Community members and local first responders often feel the strain when a crash involves children, and this collision in Oldsmar is no different. Neighbors and witnesses who were near Tampa Road at the time described a chaotic scene and quick arrival of emergency personnel. Families and residents are left with questions while officials continue to piece together the facts of what happened in that busy intersection.

Traffic safety near intersections remains a focus for local law enforcement, who regularly remind drivers to reduce speed and be vigilant when approaching turn lanes and cross traffic. Investigators will examine things like vehicle speeds, sight lines, and signal timing as part of the crash reconstruction. The goal is to determine contributing factors and, where possible, recommend changes to prevent similar tragedies.

For now, details about whether either driver will face charges remain unclear, and deputies have not released a timeline for when they expect to conclude the investigation. Officials say they will provide updates when new, confirmed information is available. Family members and the community are awaiting those updates as they cope with the aftermath of the crash.

Those with information related to the collision may be asked to speak with investigators as the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office continues its inquiry into the events on Tampa Road. The office is handling the investigation and coordinating with medical providers as needed. This remains an active case for the sheriff’s office as they work to clarify what led to this tragic outcome.
