$23M Development Coming to Auburn Gresham

A new $23 million mixed-use project with housing and retail space is coming to Auburn Gresham, a neighborhood on Chicago’s South Side. The development, led by GonSosa Development, will transform a long-vacant plot of city-owned land at 8676-94 S. Vincennes Ave. into a thriving community hub.

Project Details

The three-story building will feature 46 one- to three-bedroom mixed-income apartments, as well as 12,000 square feet of ground-level retail space and outdoor parking for 22 cars. The development will sit adjacent to the Gresham Metra station, providing easy access to public transportation.

The city will sell the vacant site to GonSosa Development for its market value of $110,000, with potential assistance of up to $5.25 million in grant funding to support development costs. The project is expected to bring much-needed housing and economic growth to the area.

Community Impact

Ald. Ronnie Mosley (21st), whose ward includes the mixed-use development, expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating that it will ‘raise the bar’ for the future of the neighborhood. The development is seen as a catalyst for further growth and investment in the area, which has experienced significant motivation and energy in recent years.
